%X in this investigation about siegfried kracauer's thinking, we study the detective novel (1922-1923). we show how kracauer's initial work is in fact a programmatic text that serves to develop his future thinking. in his novel, he connects popular culture (detective novels) with the critique of modern scientific rationality. this critique is a creative application of the symbol concept from the critique of judgment by kant.
