%X this article presents the link between the results of two studies carried out within a line of investigation which started in 2002. the first one is entitled ¡°approximation to the construction of identities of deaf people¡±, and it contributes with new knowledge about external and internal mechanisms which have had an effect in the identity construction of deaf people, characterizing the school as a relevant social space in which the role of the teacher is fundamental. its results create the need for a second investigation: ¡®a study on the representations created by teachers of deaf people in schools of the metropolitan region', through which a typology for an understanding of the current situation in this field is postulated.
