%X this work is a reflection about the construction of imaginaries that took form along the xix century in the south american countries: chile, argentina, uruguay, and brazil. these countries intended to install a modern and attractive appearance consistent with the so-called "civilized world." we try to establish an understandable frame for posing again different issues of our common history; in this case, the creation of an imaginary of prosperous countries, so powerful as to hide other possible imaginaries.
