%X symbolic markers of nursing history: the case of the 400 reales brazilian coin (1936). this article analyses the modern nursing symbolic marker present on a 400 reales coin within the series distinguished brazilians. based on the methodological perspective of micro history, which is to say from scattered registrations, with little visibility or considered irrelevant, our aim is to analyze the symbolic effects evidenced by the image of a greek lamp, symbol of modern nursing, present on the reverse side of the coin which has served as the main source of the investigation. our objective is to analytically describe the circumstances of the minting, the meaning of the symbolic markers, and to discuss the symbolic effect of this coin for nursing. the outcomes have indicated the relevance of historical studies for nurse£¿s education, as its efficiency legitimates and creates a professional identity.
