%X the objective of this article is to propose a theoretical treatment for labour union representation in the public sector. drawing on the work of important authors such as pierre bourdieu, ernesto laclau, alessandro pizzorno, klaus offe, etc, a theoretical trajectory is described from the most abstract concept of political representation to a specific kind of union representation displayed in the environment of the state. methodology is based on a bibliographical review of the previously mentioned authors and reflections on field work experience. conclusions indicate the need to approach labour union representation in the public sector as a special field that requires attention to its own particular aspects, which cannot and should not be omitted.
