%X this study analyzes the implementation of social disciplining in the province of maracaibo during the years after the disintegration of colombia (between 1830 and 1850), where initial or primary public instruction facilitated the application of disciplinary devices consonant with the republican order and capitalism. the investigation was based theoretically on the reflections of foucault (1992, 1998), and its methodological orientation was given by analytic operations belonging to the historical method.
