%X this article focuses on a series of restrictive features of prosodic, morphological, syntactic and semantic nature that may be used to delimit the broad field of discourse markers in spanish. the analysis of these features, using divergent information from a variety of theoretical models, exposes the type of units that may be or may not be present within the units that are the object of study. once this problem is resolved, article focuses on this question: which is the category of discourse markers? two fundamental points of view are held: the conjunction as prototypical category of discourse markers and the discourse markers as a subset of the adverbial category.
