%X criteria and reasoning of different outstanding authors in the sphere of language teaching regarding the use of mother tongue in this activity, mainly in english teaching, were presented. author's criteria and experiences were exposed in this field as well as suggestions for the use of mother tongue in the context of the teaching of english as a foreign language in cuban medical universities.
