John Muir’s My First Summer in the Sierra chronicles the author’s ecological exploration of the Nevada Mountains during the summer of 1869 in diary form. Through the interplay of geological observations, natural history documentation, and pastoral narratives, the text constructs an ecological aesthetic framework centered on wilderness. Behind the poetic portrayal of nature lies the marginalization of ethnic minorities. This “worship of wilderness” not only objectifies nature as an aesthetic entity but also excludes indigenous communities from ecological subjectivity by analyzing wilderness depictions and the systematic silencing of ethnic minorities.
