With the exponential growth of global data volume, effectively presenting data, efficiently conveying information, and bridging the gap between data and human interpretation have become critical challenges. Advancing data visualization technology through the integration of next-generation virtual reality (VR) and intelligent modeling technologies is key to developing dynamic and immersive data visualization methods. However, there remains a significant talent shortage in the field of data visualization and VR, particularly among top-tier experts. To address this issue and enhance the educational framework for data visualization and VR technologies, this paper proposes an exploration and reform initiative for constructing a curriculum group focused on data visualization. The proposed curriculum group integrates three core disciplines: computer graphics, data visualization, and virtual reality. It adopts a project-oriented experimental teaching approach, establishes a pedagogy that combines theoretical learning with practical application (“reading and practicing”), and develops a comprehensive multi-dimensional assessment system. Through these measures, this study aims to explore innovative strategies for curriculum group development and practical teaching reform in data visualization education, tailored to the demands of the big data and artificial intelligence era.
