In the era of short videos, most platforms, as emerging communication media, generate Internet buzzwords with multimodal characteristics. These buzzwords construct metaphorical meanings through symbol systems such as text, images, music, and body language, forming a unique linguistic landscape. To better understand this linguistic landscape, this study, from the perspective of the three metafunctions of Systemic Functional Linguistics, explores the multimodal metaphorical features of the internet buzzword “city not city”. Taking this buzzword as an example, it analyzes its multimodal metaphorical features in the conceptual, interpersonal, and textual functions. Simultaneously, based on the theoretical framework of multimodal metaphor, this study also examines the interaction among language, image, and sound modalities in this buzzword, revealing that its metaphor is not limited to the literal meaning but also presents multiple social and cultural implications such as seeking recognition, making choices, and group maintenance. Through in-depth analysis of this phenomenon, the aim is to provide a new perspective and theoretical basis for the study of internet language. %K 系统功能语言学, %K 多模态隐喻, %K 网络流行语
