Dewey was a pioneering figure in the theoretical elaboration of the idea of moral imagination. Moral imagination itself has an irreplaceable role in moral education. Based on Dewey’s writings, the main elements of Dewey’s idea of moral imagination are explored. Dewey’s idea of moral imagination includes empathy projection and creative exploration of possibilities in a situation, as well as the continued search for new possibilities when at a loss. Specific elements of the idea of moral imagination include empathy imagination, deliberate imagination, and creative imagination. These three aspects have important implications for strengthening education in moral emotion, enhancing education in moral deliberation and deepening education in moral creativity.
