The deer motifs on eaves tiles exhibit vivid and lifelike forms brimming with vitality. The extensive use of deer patterns embodies people’s aspirations for the prosperity of life and bountiful harvests. This paper focuses on deer-patterned eaves tiles from the Warring States Period, delving into the relationship between tile decoration and deer motifs. Through archaeological discoveries at the Yongcheng site, it demonstrates that animal-patterned eaves tiles from this period distinctly reflect people’s reverence for animals and characteristics of a hunting-oriented society. The study specifically analyzes the diversity of deer-patterned tiles, encompassing singular deer motifs, combinations of deer with other animals, and various dynamic postures of deer, thereby revealing the artistic evolution and aesthetic demands of eaves tile design.
