On March 10, 2023, the bankruptcy and takeover of Silicon Valley Bank highlighted the fact that uncertainty has become a key term of our era. In a time when uncertain events are increasingly common, finding effective ways to respond has become an urgent issue. This article analyzes the nature of risk and uncertainty from a sociological perspective, using the Silicon Valley Bank incident as a case study. It proposes two core mindsets and six strategies for coping with uncertainty. The two mindsets include embracing uncertainty with an open mind and adopting a closed mindset to prepare alternative plans in advance. The specific strategies are explored from multiple dimensions including information, organization, culture, and knowledge: building an information network to maintain sharp insights, creating flexible organizational models to enhance execution, fostering a diverse atmosphere to broaden solution options, integrating interdisciplinary knowledge with frontline experience to improve the scientific nature of decision-making, and maintaining optimism and confidence to meet challenges with a proactive attitude. These strategies provide a systematic framework for individuals, organizations, and even society to respond to uncertainty, helping us seize opportunities amid turmoil and achieve breakthroughs amidst change.
