Based on the panel data of 42 countries in the world from 2007 to 2020, this paper explores the impact of digital input on the division of labor in the global value chain of manufacturing through the fixed effect model and the intermediary effect model. The findings indicate that digital input significantly enhances the division of labor position of manufacturing in the GVC. Furthermore, digital input improves this position by strengthening technological innovation, increasing trade openness, and optimizing the export product structure. Additionally, the impact of digital input on manufacturing’s GVC position exhibits heterogeneity based on national income levels and industry factor endowments. Based on these findings, the paper provides relevant policy recommendations to offer theoretical and policy insights for enhancing the manufacturing sector’s position in the global value chain.
