The mortality rate of patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock (AMI-CS) remains high. In recent years, the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in AMI-CS patients has increased. However, existing evidence has not yet demonstrated a significant improvement in survival outcomes. This review focuses on the application of ECMO in AMI-CS patients, exploring its survival benefits, patient selection, and timing of initiation. Additionally, it analyzes the potential impact of different left ventricular unloading strategies on prognosis.
