This study, utilizing the theory of Translator Behavior Criticism, analyzes Yutang Lin’s English translation of Su Dongpo’s poems in The Gay Genius: The Life and Times of Su Tungpo from the perspective of the “truth-seeking-pragmatic” continuum evaluation model by means of case study analysis. It makes a comprehensive and detailed study of the truth-seeking and pragmatic degree of translation from three aspects: word selections, sentence patterns and styles. It also explores the causes of Yutang Lin’s translation behaviors from the aspects of his concepts of writing, cultural transmission awareness, and reader consciousness. Through the study, this paper finds that Yutang Lin’s translation of words has a high degree of truth-seeking and pragmatism and has a higher degree of truth-seeking in sentence patterns and style on the whole. He adheres to his translation philosophy that prioritizes fidelity over fluency. While ensuring the faithful and smooth conveyance of the original meaning, he handles the original poetry’s vocabulary, sentences, and style flexibly. This research aims to provide insights for future studies on the English translation of Dongpo Su’s poems, promoting the dissemination of Chinese literature and culture. %K 译者行为批评, %K 林语堂, %K 《苏东坡传》, %K 翻译
