Based on the discussion sections of 80 papers retrieved from the SSCI index in the field of applied linguistics, this study employed the KfNgram to identify phrase frames in the discussion sections of the papers. Following Yang and Allison’s (2003) categorization framework for move-step, these sections were categorized into specific discourse phases through manual annotation of these discussion sections. The identified phrase frames were subsequently mapped to their corresponding moves and steps, thus deriving the phrase frames that are frequently used in the papers of international journals in applied linguistics to be mapped to specific step orders. Two distinct types of phrase frames emerged: one primarily appeared within a single move or step, while the other occurred across multiple moves without obvious correlation with these step orders. These findings provide valuable insights into the writing of discussion sections in English-language papers within the field of applied linguistics. %K 短语框架, %K 讨论, %K 语步, %K 应用语言学
