English textbooks are the foundation and main basis for English teaching. The newly revised Compulsory Education Curriculum Standards issued by the Ministry of Education in 2022 state that learners can compare the similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign cultures through textbooks, develop the ability of cross-cultural communication, form healthy aesthetic tastes and correct values, establish an international perspective and strengthen cultural confidence. This requires that English textbooks, as the carriers of English teaching, present cultures with diverse themes and contents. Illustrations, as an important part of English textbooks, present cultural contents and themes in a vivid and interesting way. This article will take the illustrations in the new English textbooks for junior high school published by People’s Education Press, PEP EFL 7A, in 2024 as an example to analyze the classification of the themes and contents of cultural representation. %K 初中英语, %K 英语教学, %K 教材, %K 文化, %K 插图
