The full-length novel The Golden Mountain by the new-immigrant writer Zhang Ling spans across China and Canada in terms of space. However, the specific activities of the characters mainly take place in relatively enclosed places. The cross-regional experiences of the protagonists endow the places where they lived with cultural memories of the integration of Chinese and Western cultures. These memories profoundly influence the characters’ reconstruction of their self-identities. With her unique literary touch, Zhang Ling portrays the cultural memories of Chinese laborers and their descendants, reflecting her distinctive view on identity recognition. %K 张翎, %K 《金山》, %K 场所记忆, %K 身份意识
