A Discussion on Gao Pian’s Political Achievements before His Tenure in Huainan

%X 高骈于淮南任职前，政绩颇丰。唐僖宗在评价高骈往昔功劳时，认为高骈最显赫的功绩是任职安南期间成功拒蛮；其次是为天平军节度使期间，治理鲁地，政声洽平。同时，高骈为西川节度使期间也政绩可称，在北宋吕大防的《观政阁记》中，有提及高骈为二十八位治蜀名臣之一。凭借着这些政绩，高骈声名远播，并逐渐成为唐朝后期的中流砥柱，攀登至权力高峰。
Before taking office in Huainan, Gao Pian had achieved remarkable political accomplishments. When Emperor Xizong of Tang evaluated Gao Pian’s past merits, he believed that Gao Pian’s most outstanding achievement was successfully repelling the barbarians during his tenure in Annam. The second was his governance of the Lu region when he was the military governor of Tiance Army, which was well-received by the people. Meanwhile, Gao Pian also performed commendably during his tenure as the military governor of Xichuan. In the “Record of the Pavilion for Observing Government” by Lyu Dafang of the Northern Song Dynasty, Gao Pian was mentioned as one of the 28 famous governors of Sichuan. With these achievements, Gao Pian’s reputation spread far and wide, and he gradually became a pillar of the Tang Dynasty in its later years, reaching the peak of power.
