Diary of a Madman, one of Xun Lu’s representative novels, plays an important role in the history of modern Chinese literature. Therefore, this paper makes a comparative study of the two English translations of Diary of a Madman from the perspective of the translator’s subjectivity, and examines the translators’ strategies of “understanding” and “expressing” from three aspects: vocabulary choice, language style and the expression of cultural connotation. The results show that in terms of vocabulary choice, Lyell prefers using more life-oriented words than Xianyi Yang and Gladys Yang. Also, in the aspect of language style, Xianyi Yang and Gladys Yang translate the novel in a more concise way, while Lyell pays more attention to the cohesion of contexts to enhance the vividness of the translation. Meanwhile, in the expression of the profound cultural connotations, Xianyi Yang and Gladys Yang’s translation chooses to use simple expressions to remain the implied expression of the original novel, while Lyell uses more detailed explanation and description. It can be seen that the differences in translations are closely related to the subjectivity of translators. %K 《狂人日记》, %K 译者主体性, %K 差异对比
