This study explores the unique value of “The True Story of Ah Q” in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, particularly in fostering students’ critical thinking skills. Through a comprehensive analysis of relevant domestic and international literature, the research identifies a lack of systematic studies on how literary works can enhance critical thinking in language education. Addressing this gap, the study innovatively focuses on Lu Xun’s “The True Story of Ah Q”, employing methods such as text analysis, classroom observation, and student feedback to examine the use of satire in the novel and its role in promoting critical thinking. A series of targeted teaching activities were designed to guide students in deeply understanding the satirical and critical elements of the text, thereby improving their reading comprehension and critical thinking abilities. The results indicate that well-designed teaching strategies can effectively enhance students’ ability to grasp the satirical nuances of “The True Story of Ah Q” and appreciate its critical spirit, significantly boosting their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. This research provides an innovative model and method for teaching Chinese as a foreign language, opening new perspectives on the use of literary works in language education and offering valuable empirical evidence and theoretical insights for future studies. “The True Story of Ah Q”, as a unique teaching resource, demonstrates great potential in fostering students’ critical thinking, providing strong empirical support and strategic guidance for its effective use in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
