To summarize the experience of Chief Physician Zhang Zhenyu in treating various symptoms of arrhythmia in coronary heart disease by applying the method of “coordination between water and fire”. Chief Physician Zhang Zhenyu based his theory on the idea that the heart and the kidney are the foundation of yin and yang in the human body. When water and fire are in harmony, essence and blood generate each other, spirit and vitality interact, and the monarch and minister (the heart and the kidney in traditional Chinese medicine theory) are in their proper positions. Their relationship is mutually causal, progressive, and endless like a cycle. The disharmony between water and fire is manifested as the loss of control caused by the hyperactivity or hypofunction of heart fire and kidney water, the lack of warmth due to the successive deficiency of kidney yang and heart yang, and the lack of moistening resulting from the disharmony between heart yin and kidney yin. Under the guidance of the theory of “coordination between water and fire”, Dingxin Decoction is used to nourish heart qi and replenish heart blood as the basic formula.
