Game Localization from the Perspective of Skopos Theory—A Case Study of the English Translation of Arknights’ Scripts

%X 随着电子游戏行业的蓬勃发展,中国的电子游戏产业已从单纯引进海外优秀游戏作品,逐步迈向国产游戏“走出去”的新阶段。在这一过程中,游戏本地化成为提升国际竞争力的关键环节。然而,当前国内游戏本地化翻译研究主要集中于英译汉,对汉译英的探讨相对较少。因此,本文以国产游戏《明日方舟》的剧情文本为研究对象,基于德国功能派目的论视角,探讨游戏本地化的翻译策略。研究发现,译者需在还原原版游戏体验与实现商业价值之间寻求平衡,使译文更符合目标受众的文化习惯,从而提升游戏本地化质量和市场接受度。
With the rapid development of the video game industry, China’s gaming sector has transitioned from merely introducing foreign games to actively expanding its domestic titles into international markets. In this process, game localization has become a crucial factor in enhancing global competitiveness. However, current research on game localization in China primarily focuses on English-Chinese translation, with relatively few studies exploring Chinese-English translation. Therefore, this study examines the narrative texts of the Chinese game Arknights from the perspective of the Skopos Theory in German functionalism, analyzing localization strategies. The findings suggest that translators must balance fidelity to the original gaming experience with commercial objectives, ensuring that the localized text aligns with the cultural norms of the target audience. This approach ultimately enhances localization quality and market acceptance.
