Against the backdrop of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and the global changes that have not been seen in a century, interwoven and mutually stimulating, the international dissemination of Chinese culture is an important pathway to promote a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of China worldwide. A Fascinating Talk on Deciphering Ancient Chinese Characters, authored by Mr. Chen Weizhan, a paleographer and ancient script scholar, is the result of over two decades of dedicated research. As an academic work that delves into ancient Chinese scripts, Chapters 31 to 37 of this book covers the interpretation and study of Oracle Bone Inscriptions, Bronze Inscriptions, and other ancient characters. The explanations are easy to understand, full of interest, rich in cultural characteristics, and have a certain representativeness in promoting the international dissemination of Chinese culture. Taking the excerpted content from this text as the research subject, this study explores the application of functional equivalence theory in the English translation process from three levels: lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, and discourse equivalence.
