Science fiction translation requires not only accurately conveying the meaning of the original text but also preserving the science fiction elements and cultural connotations in the works. As one of the core principles of translation theory, the fidelity principle emphasizes that the translation should be faithful to the content, style and spirit of the original text, which is particularly important for the translation of science fiction. This paper takes the English version of The Three-Body Problem as the research object, focuses on the translator’s subjectivity and reception aesthetics, and discusses how the translation of The Three-Body Problem can be faithful to both the original author and the target language readers on the basis of functional equivalence, so as to present a nearly perfect translation. It also provides a reference for the translation of Chinese science fiction.
