Through literature review and field research, this article explores the creative origin and artistic characteristics of Zhong Kui paintings in Lingbi, Anhui. As representatives of Lingbi Zhong Kui paintings, the three generations of inheritors of the Yin family’s Zhong Kui paintings have all continued the traditional creative style of Wu Daozi and follow a rigorous apprenticeship system. Their marketing models are relatively simple, with one being the traditional market sales model and the other being the “intangible cultural heritage + cultural and creative” sales model. Through field research, it is found that Lingbi Zhong Kui paintings have problems such as the aging of intangible cultural heritage inheritors, the decreasing number of young inheritors, the poor dissemination channels of works, and the flooding of imitations in the market. Facing the challenges of market changes and cultural inheritance, Lingbi Zhong Kui paintings are still expected to achieve sustainable development through effective strategies and measures.
