Society has various stereotypes about the elderly, and these impressions often differ based on age, gender, health status, and other factors. There are widespread age and gender stereotypes about the elderly in society. Such wrong stereotypes can easily have a profound impact on the physical and mental health, social status, and overall well-being of the elderly. Society’s discrimination against the elderly will cause damage to the physical health of the elderly, increase health risks, affect rehabilitation effects, lead to deterioration of mental health, reduced economic status, limited social participation, reduced quality of life, and even cognitive decline, unfair distribution of medical resources, and damaged legal rights. The underlying reason that leads to many stereotypes about the elderly is the influence of social and cultural factors, including traditional age views and traditional social gender concepts. To change the stereotypes of the elderly, we need to start from many aspects of society, culture, and policy.
