“Bu Gang Dang” is a typical polite expression in Modern Chinese, originally used to express humility and deference. It originated from the lexicalization of a cross-layered structure composed of the negative adverb “Bu Gan” and the verb “Dang”. After a long period of development and evolution, the expression “Bu Gang Dang” has undergone further grammaticalization during its lexicalization process, gradually becoming a politeness discourse marker and solidifying its place as a fixed expression in the Chinese lexicon.
