An Approach to Analyzing Semantic Relationships between English News Headlines and between the Headlines and Their Chinese Versions from the Reverse Thinking Perspective

%X 英语标题的研究多从解读标题的共性规律视角,总结其语法结构、词法特征、修辞特点、与语篇的关系等,以及基于这样的解析提出英语标题汉译策略或写作策略,鲜有从反向思维视角切入研究标题。从反向思维视角探析英语新闻标题之间以及英语标题和其汉译之间的逻辑关系发现:英语新闻标题之间以及标题的英汉表达之间存在对比或反向语义关系。用反向思维分析法阐释这样的对比或反向语义关系有助于区分英语新闻标题的共性目的和不同结构形式标题的不同语用功能,更全面地把握标题的特点和汉译策略、拓宽英语标题的分析视角和培养思维能力。
Research on English titles predominantly focuses on interpreting their common patterns, summarizing their syntactic structures, lexical features, rhetorical characteristics, and their relationship with the text. Based on such analyses, E-C translation strategies and writing techniques for such titles or headlines are often proposed. However, there is limited research that approaches the topic from a reverse perspective. In this study, a reverse thinking approach is designed to explore the semantic relationships between different English news headlines, and those between the English news headlines and their Chinese equivalents. The findings indicate that there are contrastive or reverse relationships between English news headlines and between such headlines and their Chinese versions. The reverse thinking approach to analyzing such contrastive or reverse relationships helps to distinguish between the common purpose and different discourse functions of English news headlines, to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the features and writing skills of English news headlines and the corresponding E-C translation strategies, to add new approaches and perspectives to analyzing English news headline, and to improve thinking capabilities.
