Can Digital Inclusive Finance Effectively Promote Urban Carbon Emission Reduction? —Evidence from the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration

%X 数字普惠金融作为新兴金融服务形态,为数字时代城市碳减排提供新机遇与动力。本文基于2011~2020长三角城市群27个地级市面板数据,构建双向固定效应与机制检验模型,实证分析长三角城市群数字普惠金融对城市碳排放的影响效应与机制路径。结果显示:(1) 长三角城市群数字普惠金融发展能有效降低城市碳排放。(2) 异质性分析表明,数字普惠金融对碳排放的影响因城镇化水平、碳排放强度的不同表现出显著性差异。(3) 机制分析发现,数字普惠金融可通过推动产业结构升级与绿色技术创新,从而助力城市碳减排。文章据此提出了相关政策启示,以推动长三角城市群因地制宜发展数字普惠金融,助力城市绿色低碳转型。
As an emerging financial service form, digital inclusive finance provides new opportunities and impetus for urban carbon emission reduction in the digital era. Based on the panel data of 27 prefecture-level cities in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration from 2011 to 2020, the article constructs a two-way fixed effect and mechanism test model to empirically analyze the effect and mechanism path of digital inclusive finance on urban carbon emissions in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration. The results show that: (1) The development of digital inclusive finance in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration can effectively reduce urban carbon emissions. (2) Heterogeneity analysis shows that the impact of digital inclusive finance on carbon emissions shows significant differences due to different levels of urbanization and carbon emission intensity. (3) Mechanism analysis shows that digital inclusive finance can help urban carbon emission reduction by promoting industrial structure upgrading and green technology innovation. Based on this, the article puts forward relevant policy implications to promote the development of digital inclusive finance in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration according to local conditions and help the city’s green and low-carbon transformation.
