The pathogenesis of depression is closely related to the inflammasome, particularly the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome. Inflammatory responses play a critical role in the onset and progression of depression. Traditional Chinese medicine has demonstrated significant antidepressant effects by inhibiting the activity of the NLRP3 inflammasome and the expression of its related pro-inflammatory factors. The mechanisms involved include the regulation of neurotransmitters, the enhancement of neurotrophic factors, and the modulation of the HPA axis. Future research should further investigate the specific regulatory mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine on the inflammasome and promote individualized treatment strategies in clinical applications, with the aim of providing new perspectives for the prevention and treatment of depression.
