In view of present problems of practice teaching pharmaceutical analysis in higher vocational colleges, the challenge based learning method and ideological and political education were applied to the course of comprehensive experiment of pharmaceutical analysis. The contents of rutin in sophora japonica were determined by high performance liquid chromatography and methodological investigation was a challenging learning task. By guiding students to consult documents, design the experimental schemes, implement experimental schemes, analyze results, and carry out ideological and political education, students improved in designing experiments independently, solving problems independently, practicing ability, and achieving professional accomplishment.
