Multidimensional analysis (MF/MD) is a method first proposed by Douglas Biber in 1984 to study register variation, which is helpful for a more comprehensive study of translator’s style. For this reason, this paper makes a comparative study of translators’ styles in Moss Roberts’ and Charles Henry Brewitt Taylor’s version of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms by means of multidimensional analysis, and finds that both versions belong to the text type of “general narrative exposition”. There are significant differences in the two dimensions of “involved versus informational production” and “abstract versus non-abstract information”. The reasons for the stylistic differences between the two translators are closely related to the time features and cultural backgrounds of the two translators.
