Customizing Avatar: A Study on the Image Expression and Self-Construction of the Young Female Users on TikTok %A 汪雅丽 %J Advances in Psychology %P 597-604 %@ 2160-7281 %D 2024 %I Hans Publishing %R 10.12677/ap.2024.1412926 %X 社交媒体的出现丰富了用户自我呈现的策略和手段,其中社交媒体头像在用户自我建构的过程中扮演着重要角色。抖音平台定位于一、二线城市的年轻群体,抖音用户以影像表达将其数字痕迹延伸至网络交往领域。本文采用网络民族志的参与式观察法、深度访谈法,以抖音青年女性用户头像为例,探究其影像表达类型及其对自我建构的作用。研究发现,出于差序关系下的隐私保护、精神内省下的个性表达、他者凝视下的印象整饰等动因驱使,青年女性用户的抖音头像多采取真人隐匿、客体代偿、理想化展演等策略性表演,并最终在前台展演中以可见的形象和遮蔽的身体构建出情境自我,在抖音场域的人际互动中实现社会自我建构。
The emergence of social media has enriched users’ strategies and means of self-presentation, and social media profile pictures play an important role in the process of users’ self-construction. TikTok is positioned towards young groups in first- and second-tier cities and TikTok users extend their digital footprints to the realm of online interaction through image expression. This study uses the participatory observation method of netnography and in-depth interview to explore the types of image expression and their role in self-construction among young female TikTok users. The study finds that young female users’ TikTok avatars are often strategic performances, such as real-life invisibility, object substitution, and idealized performance, driven by motives such as privacy protection in the hierarchical relationship, individual expression in the spirit of introspection, and image refinement in the gaze of others. Ultimately, they construct a situational self by presenting visible images and concealed bodies on the front stage and achieve social self-construction in the interpersonal interactions within TikTok. %K 社交媒体, %K 用户头像, %K 影像表达, %K 自我建构, %K 抖音
