The theory of self-presentation is a key area of research in social psychology and communication studies, focusing on how individuals construct their identity and image in social interactions. As technology evolves, media presentation formats have become increasingly diverse; yet the classical theory of “self-presentation” has seen little new development. This paper systematically traces the evolution of self-presentation theory, examining its applicability and the new challenges it faces across different stages, from BBS forums to modern social media, with a particular focus on symbolic interactionism and dramaturgical theory. It reveals how technological advancements have reshaped individual self-construction and social interaction, and argues for the need to reassess self-presentation theory in today’s highly media society, proposing directions for future exploration. %K 自我呈现, %K 符号互动论, %K 文献综述
