From music to literature, from art to etiquette, refined culture not only reflects people’s pursuit of a better life, but is also an important component of Chinese culture. Kunqu Opera, as a comprehensive art form, exhibits unique design ingenuity in various aspects such as phonetics, costumes, performances, and stage art. This article focuses on the symbolic art design and scene construction strategies in the stage performance of “The Peony Pavilion”, exploring in depth how these design elements are cleverly integrated to promote the delicate progression of character emotional levels. By analyzing the texture and color of clothing, the changes in light and shadow in the scene, the melody arrangement of singing, and the body language of dance, this article aims to reveal the artistic innovation characteristics of “The Peony Pavilion” in the contemporary context, and how these designs enhance the aesthetic dissemination of the work, giving new vitality to the ancient art form of Kunqu and promoting the inheritance of Kunqu elegant culture.
