The academic community has never paid much attention to the interpretation of Book of Songs-Biaoyoumei. Most scholars have followed the annotations in Mao Zhuan to interpret the word “biao” as a verb, and the word “you” as a meaningless prefix or modal particle. Looking at the entire Book of Songs, this statement is not quite appropriate. Based on the data statistics of You-sentence in Book of Songs, taking the sentence pattern “mouyoumou” as the entry point, and analyzing from the three dimensions of ancient Chinese grammar, comparison of different texts and textual context, this essay argues that the word “you” should be interpreted as a verb, expressing the relationship of existence or possession. And the word “biao” should be interpreted as a noun to mean “branch, treetop”, which is ageneric word for the word “biao”, or an erroneous word for the similar glyphs of the word “biao”.
