Objective: To investigate the application effect of combined nutritional therapy of traditional Chinese and Western medicine based on trans-theoretical modeling in elderly patients with diabetic foot ulcer (DFU). Methods: Ninety elderly DFU patients who were hospitalized in the Department of Endocrinology of a tertiary hospital in Guizhou Province from February 2023 to February 2024 were randomly divided into the control group and the combined Chinese and Western medicine nutritional therapy group, with the control group implementing the basic dietary treatment and the combined Chinese and Western medicine nutritional therapy group implementing the combined Chinese and Western medicine dietary intervention based on the trans-theoretical model. The nutritional scores, foot ulcer areas, and glycemic control indexes of the two groups were compared. Results After the intervention, the nutritional indexes of the trans-theoretical model combined Chinese and Western medicine nutrition therapy group were higher than those of the control group (P < 0.05); the reduced area of the foot ulcer surface of the combined Chinese and Western medicine nutrition therapy group was higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05); and the glycemic control indexes of the combined Chinese and western medicine nutrition therapy group were better than those of the control group (P < 0.05); Conclusion: Dietary nutrition therapy-assisted intervention for geriatric diabetic foot ulcers could improve patients’ nutritional status, ulcers and blood glucose levels, and the effect is better than traditional dietary therapy.
