Perinatal depression is a common mental disorder in women during the perinatal period, including prenatal depression and postpartum depression. Prenatal anxiety and depression can affect glucose and lipid metabolism and pain sensitivity, and increase the incidence of cesarean section. For women who have had a cesarean section, the physical trauma and recovery challenges of surgery add to the psychological stress, making them more susceptible to symptoms of postpartum depression. Pain after cesarean section can exacerbate anxiety and depression, leading to abnormal glucose and lipid metabolism and cognitive decline. Thus, there is a complex interaction between perinatal depression and pain and glucose and lipid metabolism. This article reviews the recent research progress on perinatal depression and pain, as well as glucose and lipid metabolism.
