Common proverbs are a form of language expression that is spread among the people and have strong cultural color and life wisdom. As neighboring countries in East Asia, China and South Korea share similar cultural traditions, and their proverbs have both cultural commonalities and unique characteristics. With the increase in exchanges between China and South Korea, the comparative study of Chinese and Korean animal sayings has also received more attention. This paper starts from a comparative analysis of the morphology and symbolic meaning of dog-related sayings in the two countries, studies the symbolic meaning of animal sayings represented by dogs in the cultural and social context, and explores the connotation and symbolism of animal images in the Chinese and Korean cultural contexts, and the differences and commonalities that exist, and how to accurately convey the meaning of “dog”-related sayings in cross-cultural communication.
