Matteo Ricci, as the first person of Chinese and Western civilization exchange at the end of the Ming Dynasty, Matteo Ricci’s translation of Great Universal Geographic Map broke through the limitations of the “World Awareness” for the first time, and created a “World Awareness” enlightenment in the process of Western learning spreading to the East at the end of the Ming Dynasty. Matteo Ricci had multiple identities in his translation activities. From the perspective of narrative theory, Matteo Ricci no longer purely relied on his identity as a translator to convert Western science into words recognizable to the Chinese, but rather, through the construction and combination of multiple narrative identities, he carried out a selective “re-narrative” in his translations. In order to further study the different identities constructed in Matteo Ricci’s translation activities, this paper will take Matteo Ricci’s Great Universal Geographic Map as an example, and borrow Mona Baker’s theory of narrative construction to analyze Matteo Ricci’s narrative identity in his translation of Great Universal Geographic Map, and explore the influence of more non-textual factors on his identity construction. Taking history as a reference, we summarize the historical experience of Matteo Ricci’s narrative identity construction, and on the basis of this, we explain the revelation of narrative identity construction in the context of contemporary civilization exchanges and mutual understanding. %K 叙事建构,译者身份,翻译策略
