As an important social security system, the pension insurance plays a vital role in the welfare security of Chinese residents. Social interaction and cognition of pension responsibility have become important factors affecting residents’ participation in pension insurance. Then, in the process of the gradual implementation of basic pension insurance policy, how do social interaction and cognition of pension responsibility have an impact on residents’ participation behavior in pension insurance? From the perspective of social interaction theory, this paper takes CGSS 2021 data as research samples and establishes Logit model to explore the impact of social interaction and cognition of pension responsibility on residents’ participation behavior in pension insurance. The research shows: Both social interaction and cognition of pension responsibility have a significant impact on residents’ behavior of participating in pension insurance. Social interaction can provide residents with more opportunities for information exchange, and thus improve their enthusiasm to participate in insurance. Residents who adhere to the modern concept of pension responsibility can realize the importance of buying pension insurance, so they are more likely to choose to buy pension insurance.
