The relationship between people and places is mutually defining and shaping: people rely on their own subjective initiative to create and change places, while these places in turn affect people through their material and spiritual attributes. In specific temporal and spatial contexts, the unique environment and historical conditions of different regions have led to their unique spirit of place, which reflects the essence of the era’s culture and the core values of regional culture. This article starts from the perspective of the spirit of place, exploring how elements such as people, regional climate, and architecture collectively shape the human landscape, and uses the case of Hongcun Village in Anhui Province to deeply analyze the elements of place, historical evolution, and its cultural characteristics. The example of Hongcun Village shows how, in different historical periods, through people’s active creation and interaction, a rich human landscape has been formed, thereby highlighting its unique spirit of place as a city with distinctive characteristics. By studying the development process of Hongcun Village and the formation of its human landscape, this article aims to provide references for the future development of Hongcun Village and offer new thoughts for the exploration of the spirit of place in other cities.
