Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) of the skin are the final products produced by irreversible chemical reactions of amino groups such as reducing sugars and proteins. It can affect the human body’s sugar metabolism in various ways. The study found that the level of AGEs usually increased significantly in people with diabetes and related vascular complications. These abnormally elevated AGEs not only lead to rapid aging of blood vessels, but also trigger a series of inflammatory reactions, thereby accelerating the development of related complications. Therefore, it is necessary to understand its mechanism of action and take preventive measures. In this paper, the generation and accumulation of AGEs and their damage mechanism to glucose metabolism and blood vessels were discussed in depth, aiming to provide a new research direction for the prevention and treatment of diabetes and atherosclerosis caused by it in the future.
