Sensitive and specific detection protocols and effective antiviral therapy are essential for the prevention and treatment of viral infections. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), metallic nanomaterials with dimensions ranging from 1 to 100 nanometers, are highly regarded for their excellent biocompatibility, low biotoxicity, and adjustable size properties. Currently, AuNPs are extensively utilized in various fields such as biomolecular sensing, drug delivery, vaccine development, cancer treatment, and antimicrobial drugs. Notably, the unique characteristics of AuNPs offer significant potential in preventing and treating viral infections, including both known and potential unknown viruses. This article primarily focuses on the role of AuNPs in combating viral diseases, covering recent research advancements in areas such as viral detection, vaccine preparation, drug delivery, and antiviral treatment.
