%T Education Regionalism: Trends in Regional Education Hubs

%X Higher Education (HE) has grown and contributed to
the progress of societies around the world. The recent competition for student
quotas, funding, <span>and research development
has encouraged regional collaboration amongst</span> HEI. This regional
collaboration amongst higher education institutions (HEI) has <span>become an emerging concept in education regionalism
known as Regiona</span>l <span>Education Hubs
(REH). REH are defined as state initiated foreign policies</span> that
encourages memberships of its HEI to collaborate and develop, HE in the region.
This study focuses on identifying the various REH established in Asia, Europe,
Latin America and Caribbean, and highlighting the various trends of mobility
and motivations for establishing a REH. Results indicate that various REH were
established within regions that utilized university membership to achieve the
goals of the REH and promote collective approach to improving higher education
in the region. In addition, trends observed in the REH were 1) faculty, student
and staff mobility within the REH and 2) that depending on the location of the
REH, there were different motivations for establishing a REH. This study
suggests that REH are a result of regional progress and used as a platform to
develop in higher education within the region.
