Mouth Swallowing Art is a folk exorcism in China, with a long history and rich cultural heritage. It is mainly passed down in ethnic minority areas in the south and southwest of China, but it also ap-pears in Han ethnic areas in the north. With the passage of history, various ethnic groups and re-gions have gradually formed unique local swallowing images, but their functions in warding off evil spirits and promoting good fortune have never changed. It is a materialistic symbol of deities, serv-ing as a spiritual pillar to safeguard the safety of our ancestors for thousands of years, and is a solid folk belief of many ethnic groups. This article takes swallowing as the main research object, and ex-plores the art of swallowing in China from three aspects: origin, function, and image, through sorting and analyzing relevant research in the current academic community.
