Gong Pengcheng’s Attempt to Construct “Tradition” —Starting from Criticizing Chen Shixiang’s “Lyrical Tradition” %A 刘濠榕 %J World Literature Studies %P 313-319 %@ 2330-5266 %D 2023 %I Hans Publishing %R 10.12677/WLS.2023.114055 %X “抒情传统”是旅美学者陈世骧在上世纪七十年代提出的关于中国文学特色的一种观点,并在后来的文学评论中被发扬并且广泛接受。2009年台湾学者龚鹏程撰文《不存在的传统——论陈世骧的抒情传统》从“视界”“方法”“思想”三个角度对陈世骧“抒情传统”说进行批评。其实,龚氏对“抒情传统”的相关思考早在20世纪80年代就已经开始,并先后提出了“缘情”“假拟”“文”的传统。其中1992年出版的《文化符号学:中国社会的肌理与文化法则》一书借鉴符号学思想,建立了一套针对中国文学乃至文化的“文化符号”阐释体系。龚鹏程对“抒情传统”批评有三点意义:打破了近代以来文学研究“抒情”“叙事”的二分范式;突出了中国文学中“情”发生的特点;让学界对“抒情传统”进行再思考,激发从中国自有材料中发明自在文论的阐释体系的尝试。龚鹏程并不意在参与“抒情传统”的讨论,而是试图建构一种本土化的阐释体系,而对西化并占据主流学术话语的“抒情传统”的批判自然成了新传统建构尝试的题中之义。文章试图从龚鹏程对陈世骧“抒情传统”说批判的原始文本入手,探究龚鹏程建构理路,同时探求其意义。
“Lyrical tradition” is a view on the characteristics of Chinese literature proposed by Chen Shixiang, a scholar in the United States, in the 1970s, and has been carried forward and widely accepted in later literary criticism. In 2009, Taiwan scholar Gong Pengcheng wrote an article titled The Nonexistent Tradition—On Chen Shixiang’s Lyrical Tradition, criticizing Chen Shixiang’s “lyrical tradition” from three perspectives of “view”, “method” and “thought”. In fact, Gong’s thinking on the “lyrical tradition” began as early as the 1980s, and he put forward the tradition of “from sentiment”, “imaginary” and “words” successively. Among them, Cultural Symbolology: The Structure and Cultural Laws of Chinese Society, published in 1992, drew on the thought of semiotics and established a set of interpretation system of “cultural symbols” for Chinese literature and even culture. Gong Pengcheng’s criticism of “lyrical tradition” has three meanings: it breaks the dichotomy paradigm of “lyric” and “narrative” in modern literature; highlights the characteristics of “sentiment” in Chinese literature; makes the academic community rethink the “lyrical tradition” and stimulates the attempt to invent the interpretation system of free literary theory from its own materials. Gong Pengcheng did not intend to participate in the discussion of “lyrical tradition”, but tried to construct a localized interpretation system, and the criticism of the “lyrical tradition” which westernization and occupied the mainstream academic discourse naturally became the meaning of the construction attempt of the new tradition.
